Reliability and Dependability – Can they be Proven?
(course REL 501)

We will consider four basic stress categories that are known to degrade electronic equipment over time.

1. Temperature and accompanying dimensional changes
        High
        Low
        Rate of change

2. Dynamic inputs
        Mechanical shock
        Vibration Amplitude (G forces)
        Vibration Frequency
        Direction (simultaneous mutli-axis preferred)
        Random Vibration

3.  Liquids
        Water vapor
        Liquid water
Other liquids (fuel, oil, hydraulic fluid, anti-freeze, etc.)

4. Contamination - ionic (anions and cations)
        Manufacturing and process sources
        External or induced sources
